| Question: | Is Christianity the greatest religion? | |
| Answer: |
Strictly speaking, no!
In one sense Christianity is not a religion at all! The word 'religion' comes from Latin roots meaning to bind or fasten, but the purpose of Christianity is to set its followers free. Far from being a set of rules or rituals which allow mankind to approach God, or to seek his favour, Christianity teaches that God has reached out to us and offers a personal relationship, through Jesus Christ, as a free gift of grace. That is why there are no 'orders of service' and only one set prayer in the New Testament. We are free to worship our Lord in all the rich diversity of liturgy, music and form that abounds in the church. Christ has set us free to enjoy our freedom in him and we should be a holy people but not a religious people. |
